The meeting is a must-attend session for advertisers, publishers, agencies and consumer advocates who realize the way the current digital-advertising economy treats user privacy and identity must change. . . individuals and groups who are passionate about sustaining the values, principles and purposes of journalism.

What: The Local Media Consortium, an association of 80 local media companies representing over 2,500 newspaper, broadcast and online outlets, in partnership with Information Trust Exchange (ITEGA), invites brands, agencies, publishers, privacy advocates, lawmakers and technologists to participate in this Multistakeholder Privacy Initiative to develop a new model for ad-supported news content that respects consumer privacy.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE EARLIER NYC MEETING
In a unique effort in January, more than 45 experts in policy, media, advertising and technology convened to start developing a new online model that protects consumer privacy, improves brand safety, combats ad fraud and supports journalism.
This April 24-25 in Washington, D.C.,  meeting will focus on action steps to move  the project forward:

  • Review and approve a privacy statement for adoption by publishers;
  • Discuss and approve plans for a tech stack including a federated single sign-on feature  individual publishers can implement and an opt-in user data exchange;
  • Detail specific rules and processes for the governing nonprofit and for entities participating in the ecosystem (advertisers, publishers, etc).
  • Get an update on Mozilla’s testing of its global consent manager (GCM) browser plug-in tool.

Participants who joined us in Brooklyn volunteered for task groups. Task-group chairs organized calls in February and March — continuing in April — to formulate recommendations for the April 24-25 meeting in DC. finalize the group’s recommendations.   1. Privacy Committee, chaired by privacy and data consultant Michelle de Mooy;
  2. End-User Consent Committee, chaired by Mozilla’s Don Marti and EFF’s Andres Arrieta;
  3. Publisher Tech Stack Committee, chaired by former IAB Tech Lab Senior Director Brendan Riordan-Butterworth;
  4. Governance Committee, chaired by ITEGA Executive Director Bill Densmore
