WEBSITE PRIVACY AGREEMENT
Q: What products and services are covered in this privacy policy?
This Website Private Agreement explains how the Information Trust Exchange Governing Association (“ITEGA” or “we:”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects your information. You agree to the terms of this statement when you visit or use the ITEGA website. By accessing this site, you agree to be legally bound by and comply with this User Agreement. If you do not agree to comply with this Privacy Agreement, you are not authorized to use this site. This site is not directed to children under 13, and will not knowingly collect or maintain personal information from children under 13.
ITEGA knows that you care how information about you is used and shared. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy. We have organized this document as a series of questions-and-answers as well as specific topica sections.
GENERAL TERMS
Q: How do you define personally identifiable information (PII)?Information that can be associated with a specific person and can be used to uniquely identify that person is PII, or “Personal Information.” Examples include your name, postal delivery address or email address or telephone number, as well as other information when it is combined with your personal-identifying information. “Personal Information” includes information that alone or when in combination with other information may be used to readily identify, contact, or locate you (e.g., name, address, telephone number, email address, and location). We do not consider “Personal Information” to include information that has been anonymized so that it does not allow a third party to easily identify a specific individual. By disclosing your Personal Information to us or using the Services, you consent to our collection and use of it consistent with applicable data protection law and this Privacy Policy (which is expressly incorporated into any Service’s terms of use). We may anonymize and aggregate data collected through the Services and use it for any purpose.
Q: What information do we collect and how?
We collect Personal Information when you:
- Register to use the Services;
- Use the Services; and
- Communicate with us.
We also collect information, such as anonymous usage statistics, by using cookies, server logs, and other similar technology as you use the Services. When we link Personal Information with other information, we treat all of the linked information as Personal Information.
In general, you can visit ITEGA-owned services without identifying yourself or revealing any of your Personal Information. In a few areas on the Services, we ask you to provide Personal Information, such as your email address, first and last name, and address that will enable us to enhance your use of the Services or for purposes such as facilitating correspondence with you, registering your entitlement to access certain special features of the Services, in connection with your participation in promotions or special programs, or to complete transactions, including donations. It is always your choice whether or not to provide that Personal Information. If you choose not to provide requested Personal Information, you may not be able to use certain features of the Services.
Using the Services. We collect information you post through the Services. For example, when you interact with other users by commenting on stories or submitting a contribution, we will collect the information you provide in such submissions, including any Personal Information.
Q: How do you use the Personal Information you collect?
We use Personal Information to:
- Facilitate and improve our services;
- Provide the services you request;
- Provide donor recognition;
- Communicate with you, including for customer- and member-service purposes; and
We collect information from you when you voluntarily respond to a survey or fill out a form, such as joining our mailing list. As appropriate, you may be asked to enter your e-mail address or zip code. You may, however, visit our site anonymously and choose not to join our mailing list.
ITEGA limits its use of Personal Information to purposes related to maintaining and sending newsletter subscriptions, for processing payments. We may collect Personal Information through your communications with our customer-support team.
Making Payments. When you make payments through the Service, such as in connection with making a donation, you may need to provide Personal Information, such as your credit card number and billing address. That information will be provided directly to our third-party payment processor, and ITEGA will not have access to and will not store or maintain your credit card information on our servers.
Q: How do you share my Personal Information?
We may share your personal information:
- with our third-party service providers;
- to comply with legal obligations;
- to protect and defend our rights and property;
- if we undergo a merger, sale or other asset transfer; and with your permission.
We do not rent, sell, or share Personal Information about you with other people or nonaffiliated companies for their direct marketing purposes. Specifically, ITEGA does not share, trade, sell, or otherwise release donors’ personal information to any third parties.
Donors or members who contribute more than $5,000 to ITEGA will appear in our Form 990 filings with the United States Internal Revenue Service, as required by law, but otherwise, we do not disclose donor information without a donor’s explicit consent. If you make a financial or other donation, we may use any Personal Information you specify to be used as the attribution for your contribution in connection with any lists of donors to The Texas Tribune, including any donor lists posted on the Services.
Customer Service. We may send email to the email address you provide to us to verify your account and for informational and operational purposes, such as account management, customer service, or system maintenance and to alert you to product upgrades, special offers, updated information, and other new products and services from The Texas Tribune. If you request support or other information, we may need to use Personal Information to respond to your request. With your consent, we may also use Personal Information to notify you periodically about important topics, like Services updates, changes to our Privacy Policy, or notice of a security breach.
Q: What information do you receive because of the way the Internet works?
When you visit itega.org, or any other typical web or mobile service, Internet protocols automatically send to us data on the pages you access, your computer or phone IP address, device identifiers, the type of operating system you are using, mobile network information, standard web log data and other information. Web log data includes the browser type you’re using and traffic to and from our services.
Q: How do we use so-called “Cookies” or “web beacons”?
When you access ITEGA services, we may place small data files on your computer or other device commonly referred to as “cookies” or pixel tags. In general, cookies can make the Internet more useful by helping to store information about your preferences. We use these technologies to: recognize you as a user, for measurement and research, to prevent fraud, and to promote trust and safety across our service.
You are free to decline our Cookies if your browser or browser add-on permits, but doing so may affect your use of our services. This Website Privacy Agreement covers our use of Cookies only and does not cover the use of Cookies by third parties. We do not control when or how third parties place cookies on your computer, phone or device. For example, third-party websites may set their own cookies.
Q: How may I modify or delete information you have saved about me?
You may opt out of our mailing list at any time, using the “Opt Out” link found at the bottom of our email communications. To update any of your Personal Information we hold about you, to request that we delete any information about you that we have obtained from an Integrated Service, to cancel your account and have all account information associated with your account deleted, or to change any of your marketing preferences, you may contact us at privacy@itega.org
Q: If your policies change, how will I know?
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page. From time to time, we may use customer information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy notice. If our information practices change at some time in the future we will post the policy changes to our Web site to notify you of these changes and provide you with the ability to opt out of these new uses. If you are concerned about how your information is used, you should check back at our Web site periodically.
OTHER TERMS
INTERNATIONAL USERS
By using the Services, you will transfer data to the United States. The Services are hosted in the United States. If you choose to use the Services from Canada, the European Union or other regions of the world with laws governing data collection and use different from and potentially more strict than U.S. law, please note that you are transferring your Personal Information outside of those regions to the United States for storage and processing. Also, we may transfer your data from the U.S. to other countries or regions in connection with storage and processing of data, fulfilling your requests, and operating the Services. By providing any information, including Personal Information, on or to the Services, you consent to such transfer, storage, and processing.
SECURITY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
ITEGA maintains physical, organizational, and electronic safeguards that are designed to improve the integrity and security of Personal Information in our custody and control. While we strive to protect your Personal Information, The Texas Tribune does not ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. We also cannot guarantee that such information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our safeguards.
You are solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your passwords or any account information. Please be careful and responsible whenever you’re online. If you post Personal Information online that is accessible to the public, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return.
By using the Services or providing Personal Information to us, you agree that we may communicate with you electronically regarding security, privacy, and administrative issues relating to your use of the Services. If we learn of a security system’s breach, we may attempt to notify you electronically by posting a notice on the Services or sending an email to you. You may have a legal right to receive this notice in writing. To receive free written notice of a security breach (or to withdraw your consent from receiving electronic notice), please notify us at webmaster@itega.org

Our site may contain links to other websites that we think may be of interest to you. We have no control over these other sites or their content. ITEGA DOES NOT CONTROL AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT THIRD PARTIES DO IN CONNECTION WITH THEIR WEBSITES OR HOW THEY HANDLE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION. PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION AND CONSULT THE PRIVACY POLICIES POSTED ON EACH THIRD-PARTY WEBSITE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
Termination
We reserve the right to terminate the site and this User Privacy Agreement at any time without notice for any reason. The Limitation of Liability and Governing Law Sections of this User Agreement shall survive any such termination.
Governing Law
This User Agreement will be governed by the laws of the State of California applicable to contracts made and performed there without regard to its conflicts of law principles. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts sitting in the State and California and waive any jurisdictional, venue or inconvenient forum objections to such courts.
